1. When is IA application required?
IA application is required for:
i) new industrial development
ii) new industrial activity/process
iii) change of use of premises.

2. Is IA application necessary for change in company business name?
  IA application is not necessary if there is no change in the company's address and activities. However, you are required to keep the Pollution Control Department of the National Environment Agency informed in writing of the change in company name.

3. Can I save the draft application in the IAS?
At present, the IAS does not support this feature. We will upgrade the IAS to incorporate this feature in the near future.

4. Will I receive an acknowledgement for my IA application?
If your IA application is successfully transmitted, you will receive an e-mail acknowledgment providing the Case ID reference of your IA application.

5. How can I check the status of my IA application in the IAS?
You can click on 'Existing Application' feature at the IAS homepage to enquire on the status of your application.

6. Is there any restriction on the file size for attachments?
File attachments should not exceed 2 MB.

7. If the size of my file attachment exceeds 2MB, how can I transmit the document?
You will receive another email from IAS informing the contact particulars of the processing officer handling your application. You may send the large file attachments directly to the email of the processing officer.

8. What is the processing time for IA application?
The minimum processing time for IA applications is 7 working days provided complete and accurate information/documents are submitted. More time would be needed if consultation with other government agencies or site investigation is involved.

9. How can I send additional information via the IAS in support of my IA application?
Yes, you can submit the additional information via the "Existing Application" feature in the IAS homepage. You have to choose the Case ID of your application made and then check the box for submission of the additional information.

10. How can I withdraw the IA application after it is submitted?
Yes, you can withdraw the IA application provided it has not been approved. You have to go to the "Existing Application" feature, choose the Case ID of your application made and then check the box for withdrawal of application. For IA application that has been approved, you have to submit the withdrawal request directly to the email address of the processing officer.

11. How will I receive the approval or reply for my IA application?
The approval or written advice from NEA will be sent to your email address by the IAS.

12. If my IA application is rejected, how do I appeal for a re-evaluation?
You have to appeal directly to the processing officer via his email address providing the CASE ID reference of your application and substantiate the grounds of your appeal.

13. How do I determine the designated/permissible use of the industrial premises?

14. Where are the industrial premises which are designated for food factory use?
You may enquire with AVA or JTC or HDB for the locations of the designated food factories.

15. What type of industrial activities is allowed within 100m of food factories?
Only clean and light industries (B1) are allowed within 100m of food factories in order to safeguard food safety.

16. What type of industrial activities is not allowed within water catchment areas and where can I obtain information on the location of these water catchment areas?
Industrial activities that can cause serious water pollution to the environment are not allowed within water catchment areas. The PUB water catchment map can be found in the link given below. http://www.pub.gov.sg/LongTermWaterPlans/CatchmentMap.pdf

17. Can I use my factory premises as a workers' dormitory?
For ancillary workers' dormitory use within the factory premises, please complete and attach the workers' dormitory application form available at http://app2.nea.gov.sg/worker_dorm_application.aspx with supporting documents and submit it together with the IA application.

18. Does non-industrial facilities, such as canteen, cafe, bar, shops and child care centre, situated within industrial premises require an IA clearance?
IA clearance is not required for independently operated non-industrial facilities.

19. Can I reply to the written advice directly to the email address of the processing officer email instead of routing via IAS?
All replies to the written direction from the processing officers must be routed via the IA system for record keeping purpose.

20. Can I submit an IA application using a hardcopy IA form?
With the implementation of the online IAS, hardcopy application has been phased out. IA applications must be made via the IAS.

21. Can I use a factory premises zoned for general industry use (ie. B2) to carry out B1 activities?
Yes, you are allowed provided necessary measures are implemented to mitigate the impacts from the surrounding B2 activities on your processes/operations.

22. Do I need to apply for IA clearance for use of commercial premises?
IA clearance is not required for usage of commercial premises. However, you are required to obtain URA's clearance.

23. What general industry (B2) uses are not allowed near food factories?
General industry uses which have the potential to pose food safety risk (i.e. dust, smell, fumes, etc.) are generally not allowed within 100m of food factories.

24. If I misplaced the clearance letter for my IA approval, do I need to re-apply for IA clearance?
You do not need to reapply for IA clearance so long as there is no change of use or change in the approved activities.

25. Is IA application required for transfer, assignment or renewal of lease if there is no change of activities?
IA application is required for transfer or assignment cases because of the new ownership. For renewal of the lease, IA application is not required provided there is no change to the approved activities.

26. If JTC/HDB requires me to amend the caption on the IA clearance letter, can the IA clearance be amended?
The caption on the IA clearance follows the proposed use indicated in your IA applcation. If you are faced with this difficulty, you may request the HDB/JTC concerned to speak to our processing officer directly.

No fees are charged at present for IA applications made via IAS.
